The Canadian Airway Focus Group (CAFG) is comprised of a group of 15 airway enthusiasts. Originally brought together in the late 1990s by Dr. Edward Crosby, he and the group published a highly-cited 1998 article “The unanticipated difficult airway with recommendations for management” in the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia.  With some of the original members and some new ones, the CAFG convened for a second time in 2011 to examine the interval literature and update the guidelines.  This resulted in dual guideline publications in 2013, also in the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia. One article made recommendations for difficulty encountered in the unconscious patient and the other helps guide clinician decision-making when faced with a patient with an anticipated difficult airway.  Currently, another guideline update is underway by a third iteration of the CAFG.  Our hope is for submission of the manuscripts in early 2020, again to the Canadian Journal of Anesthesia.  Thereafter, we plan to shift the Group’s focus to fostering a cross-country network of clinicians interested in airway management research.

The airway training center was created in 2007 by three anesthesiologist (Dr. Maurício do Amaral Neto, Dr. Maurício Luíz Malito and Dr. Daniel Perin) to spread the knowledge of airway management acquired with Dr. Andranik Ovassapian at University of Chicago.

We are a private teaching company which have regular courses in São Paulo/Brazil. The program contains lectures, manikin training, low and high fidelity simulation and behavioral simulation. The teaching team consist of 26 instructors from different specialties. We have already trained more than one thousand doctors: anesthesiologists, intensivists, emergency physicians, surgeons and clinicians). We also have mobile courses made in different cities of Brazil. This is very important because Brazil is a continental country and the good airway management need to reach everywhere.

Finally, we are proud to say that our events are approved by the Society for Airway Management – SAM since 2017.
